Vacuoles are primarily found in plant cells, usually taking up eighty percent or more of a mature plant cell, but can be found in much smaller scales in animal cells. Their structure includes of a membrane-bound sac that functions as storage, waste disposal, protection, and growth. Also, the vacuole regulates turgor pressure in plant cells to keep the plant from wilting. Because of its large size, the vacuole is viewable under a light microscope and appears as an open space with a grey tint under an electron microscope.
