Plastids are located in plant cells and in photosynthetic protests found in the cytoplasm of a plant cell. All plastids have a double envelope consisting of two sheets of membrane which are separated by a narrow space of about ten nanometers. The functions of plastids include of storing molecules such as pigment (which gives fruits and vegetables a red/orange color) and also to store starch.
